Ten years!

Here I am, hello! Where have I been? Well, writing, obviously:

Also, being a poor influence on my child:

And appearing on podcasts! Well, a podcast.

The last couple of months have been crammed with Work and Life, but I promise, promise, promise to write more soon. I have also been reorganizing my work schedule and cleaning up my habits, such as they are, and I think I’m on a smarter track. I’ll tell you all about it in my next post.  (Uh, maybe after we take a look at some of the above Salads. Alluring and new? Sign me up!)

The ten-year anniversary of my blog came and went, and I sort of can’t believe it’s been so long. So many great things have happened in my life as a result of this blog. This is a very important place for me. I don’t want to neglect it, and you, any more.

Hey, so: who’s still reading? Please comment, and say hello. Tell me about you. What brought you here? What do you want to see more of? Less of? The same amount of? Do you have a blog? Why not tell us about it?

congratulations on your alluring salad anniversary! i have some thinly sliced pears here to add to the celebration.

i've been enjoying your work since 2005. i've had a few blogs, though the current one lies dormant, mostly. how do you write what's true when everyone reading knows who you are?

Hi! Welcome back! Salads! I would love to hear more about your working schedule etc etc. Maybe it will help me not be so lame. I check your blog routinely just to make sure I haven't missed anything, so write whatever you do! EVEN MORE PAINTINGS. I like it all.

I felt so neglected :(

Hi! I don't remember when I started reading your blog or how I found it (maybe Dooce? I have no idea). But long enough that I remember when you were looking to move and saw house that was "so small you wanted to punch it." I was hooked :) I loved the "series"--in quotes because I don't think you meant it as such--on your elementary school experiences year by year, and all the comments..

Also, on a more depressing note, your post (and article) about your miscarriage helped me get through mine two years ago, so thanks.

Lucy: this stops me from writing more than it doesn't. It's tough! I wish I had a real answer...

Lauren: Thanks! I have to, uh, do some paintings. I managed to suck all the joy out of it by putting undue pressure on myself, so I need to remember why I liked doing it in the first place.

I can't remember how I found you, but I know I've been reading you for ages. :) I used to have a blog but found that Twitter and FB provided me enough ranting outlet. Occasionally I consider starting something new, but the feeling usually passes.

Hi! (waving)

Long time reader; always followed you and Dooce and Amalah. Keep writing here please!

I've been here from the beginning, still reading, still laughing, still loving all you write. I'm a bit of a storyteller, but you are more than that, you are a brilliant writer. I've learned so much about good writing from you. Thank you. Hugs.

I came here because I needed to know how to spell "conscientious," but now I'm more concerned that your neighborhood is in decline.

Oh, also, I adore your humor and story-structure skillz. On more than one occasion, I've been noodling over an idea in my thinkin'-brain, and on that very day or the day after, you've posted a blogpost on that very same subject. Basically what I'm proudly admitting to, as I straighten my tinfoil hat and sit up a little higher in my lead-lined (to reduce the impact of the gamma rays on my reproductive organs) chair, is that I think you're telepathically connected to me. I don't need to write, because you do it better and funnier for me!

(Now, now, sssh. Don't be bothering to write me back telling me to write...I was just joshing you about not needing to. Although, I've written so little as of late that I think this comment should count as a blogpost. Phwew! I'm so proud of myself. Time to get to drinkin'! What do you mean it's only 11:17am?)

I, too have been here since a long long time ago. It was pre-kid, ergo >8 1/2 years.

I probably came in by way of what were, at the time, the most awesome women blogging about infertility - http://www.alittlepregnant.com/ and http://julia.typepad.com/, the intrepid Julie and Julia, respectively. They, Alice and Mrs. Kennedy are now of course the most awesome people writing about kids, and oh, living.

In short, via some damn link or another!
I am forever grateful to hear how you are managing the complexities and delights.

I will never leave you. Write or don't write. I am here, patiently waiting...

(Also I know you are writing! Just not your blog. And that's good, in my opinion. Write the book, ignore the blog.)

Well, you can be ashamed of not posting, but I'm ashamed of slacking off in your writing course. There's enough shame for everyone!

Happy Blogiversary.

I been reading this blog for years. What I like most about your writing is that you talk about REAL things with humor and a bit of irreverence thrown in. You take being a good wife/mother/daughter/friend/pet owner seriously but you don't 'take yourself too seriously'. :)

I've stopped saying I promise to write more because I'm just a liar, anyway. I'm reading "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" (by Biggles, or Higgins, or Frogget, or whoever...oh, right, Gibbon). It's on my Kindle, which is weird because the footnotes are, like, never a foot but just dropped in the middle of everything like bits of egg in Chinese soup. (Is that a thing?)

I have my recording studio now in full semi-operational mode, and am continuing my project to record all the Beethoven sonatas and Chopin nocturnes.

But you knew all of this.

I'm so happy you posted and that you're, uh, still around! Every time I click on your blog I'm reminded of poor Henry's haircut. How's his hair now?!
I came to your blog probably in 2008 or 2009, something like that. It was the oughts. I enjoy your sense of humor, the real things you write about, your painting, basically I just think you're pretty cool. And your fat cat.

I am a fan of you and your Internet Website.
Hello.

March 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHelen Jane

I first came here because other writers I admire enjoyed your blog. I stayed for the quality of the writing.

I've only been blogging for about half as long, but I love the connections I've made that I never would have otherwise. I like to write about my kids and building violins, but lately it's been dominated by our quest for Mold-A-Ramas.

ha! I just entered my name in a box that says "author:" ha! O how I wish.
Anyway, just saying hi and that I'm always checking your blog, and I love your writing. Don't remember what link brought me here, but I've been stalking for years.

March 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAndrea

Hehe, "Author"... good one! Same reaction as Andrea ;)

Hi! Happy to see a new post so delurking to say hello. I love your writing, and will continue lurking forever. Probably came to you the same way Moosilaneous did, sent your way-ish from Julie and Julia many years ago.

But, omg, I hope Henry doesn't go to a Waldorf school? That teacher comment would send some Waldorf parents into a deep, deep pit of shame....

March 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMaggie

Maggie: no, thank god! Just a filthy public school.

March 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAlice

Hello. I love you. Also, I have been blogging for ten years. But I feel you've done more with it than I have, somehow. Never mind. Great things ahead for both of us, I'm sure.

March 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterChristine

I love salad.

code for I heart you, Alice Bradley.

Happy blogging anniversary! Don't remember how I got here, but I've stayed for your writing and personality. And writing course thing. You're good folks :)

March 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDelaney

I'm here! I love you Alice. I've been reading long enough to be starstruck when you and Eden invited me to breakfast on the last morning of Camp Mighty. Mwah.
