Who wants to help me pick out eyeglass frames? You? Oh, I hope it's you.

I had perfect vision. Had. Then one day, not long ago, I couldn't read the directions on a box of…something. (My memory is also failing me.) A few weeks later, I couldn't tell whether the shampoo I was considering contained sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate. (Important!) I noticed a deep vertical furrow running between my eyebrows, which became deeper (and weirdly achy) after every computer session. I had to hold takeout menus at arm's length. Then my arms were not long enough.

I saw the fuzzy writing on the wall. I am Aged now, and require reading glasses. So be it. After a trip to the eye doctor and a tour through the expensive eyeglass choices on display, I skipped over to the drugstore and purchased the only pair that wasn't studded with rhinestones or cartoon characters. They are not hideous, but I could do better.

When Rivet & Sway offered me a pair of reading glasses, damn right I was going to take them up on it. I had a hard time choosing from their selections, as their choices were uniformly cute and unspangled and very few of them, if any, sported tiny Winnie the Poohs in the corners. They all look good to me. Fortunately Rivet and Sway offers the services of Ritzy, the Personal Stylist With the Best Name, to help you choose pairs.

Here are the frames she picked for me. I like them all, frankly, although I secretly have a favorite. What do you think?

(I took pictures with my computer camera, and included some staged photos of what I look like while I'm working. I aim to Entertain as well as Inform.)

First: we have the Faster, Pussycat!, in Jet Black.

faster, pussycat

Turns out that one of my ears is higher than the other. Fortunately I am filled with self-acceptance. Stop laughing at me!

fp, chocolate

Chocolate helps the brain.

faster pussycat, peering

Wait, how do I make the camera take a pic… oh.

Next: the Ruby Red, in Heart Throb.

ruby red

This is not a face I make while working, ever.

ruby red, shocked

My deadline was when?

Finally: the Je Ne Sais Quoi, in Water Lily.

je ne sais quoi

Blue! I like blue.

jnsq, dumb

Sometimes I stick my tongue out while thinking, as if I were a kitty cat.

je ne sais quoi, sliding

This is the face I make when Scott tells me I'm pretty. And then I slide out of the frame.

je ne sais quoi, laffing

I am a great wit!

Weigh in. I know you have opinions.

Rivet & Sway is hosting a Super Mom Contest for Mother's Day. To enter? Share a short story (250-500 characters) of a super mom in your life by going here. I am pretty sure she doesn't need to have actual super powers. Rivet & Sway will be accepting entries from May 1-12. Winner will be announced on Facebook and notified via email on May 15, 2013.

In the meantime, Rivet & Sway is offering Finslippy readers a 25% off $25 off discount with code SUPER-MOM between now and June 30th, 2013. Enjoy!

I love the blue ones. I currently have blue / green glases and I get more complements on them than the red pair I used to have. Also I think the blue just looks better on you.

I love them all, but I've been wanting to get Faster Pussycat for myself, so I'm definitely voting for those as the best pair for you! I think the slight angle of the frame looks great on your face.

I like the shape of the Ruby Red the best. They don’t look at all red on my screen, but maybe it’s the light. They’re really nice.

And when you’re not sliding out of the frame, you definitely are pretty.

The Je Ne Sai Quois give you a certain . . . I don't know. In other words, oui oui to those ones.

Ruby Red FTW!

I love the blue ones! They bring out your eyes beautifully, and as someone said above, they suit your delicate face. If you want the larger black style, I prefer the Pussycat over the Ruby Red.

Blue blue blue! They're gorgeous on you!!

So which are your favorites??

I love the blue ones. But then, this is coming from a girl with purple frames.

I will walk you through my responses:
#1: Hm. Well. Yes, those are cute, quirky...just no. They look like a costume choice.

#2: Oh, hey, those are much better, they look more natural for Alice. They are a bit...bland, though?

#3: Oh! Those are so cute! I wish my recent purchase of glasses had turned up something that fit me with that sort of effect. And look, Alice is coming alive in them...

So, in summary: The first pair would be very ill-advised, the second pair wouldn't be objectionable, I guess. And you are rocking that third pair!

I DO have opinions! And it's not often anyone wants to hear them, so here you go. I like the Ruby Red the best. And you look lovely in all the pictures--even the goofy ones. :)

The Faster, Pussycat! make you look just like my optometrist, who is very pretty and has good taste in glasses. I like the Ruby Red best on you. But I don't think you can go wrong here.

Blue for sure! I love color - and anything that adds to that is a good thing.

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterLeann

Ruby Red, hands down! The blues are lovely but there's always the chance that you'll get tired of them, says the owner of a pair of super-cute bright purple glasses that wore out their welcome within months.

They all look great, but Ruby Red is the most flattering, I think.

The Water Lily ones! Blue! They make your eyes look amazing -- I mean, even MORE amazing than they already are! :-)

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBeth

The blue ones with the French name. For sure.

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterFaye

If you secretly have a favorite, go with that one. But I like the Ruby Red the best.

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMJ

The blue ones. And you need to cut your hair short again. You rocked short hair.

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAnon

Ruby Red fer shure. They all look good, but I like the slightly more rounded edges of Ruby Red on your face.

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJackie

Ruby red shape, but in that beautiful blue please. :-)

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

Don't recall asking for advice about my hair, Anon, but...thanks? Still, let's not have this be an advice free-for-all.

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered Commenteralice

ruby red. water lillies are ok too, but ruby reds.

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered Commenteralex

Ruby Red! I definitely need new glasses... My frames don't fit for some reason. Maybe my head is getting bigger with age.

May 2, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterm

Throw me in with the blue folks, they fit your face best. While I love boldly colored glasses on other people, your face seems to resemble mine in that it turns out to be narrow (don't notice this until one puts on frames and looks like a child wearing grandpa's glasses) and well, pale-ish (not that there's anything wrong with that, right? right?!). Does this company offer different frame sizes? The others with less width might look even better on your face.

My husband can wear dark, dark frames or no frames, any shape, any size, and look fetching. If I find ONE pair that actually fits and looks okay, it's a day for rejoicing. So, I think you're pretty lucky that so many people like each of them! But I still think blue jnsq is winning, as it should.
