Some disorganized ramblings along with these sketches
Instead of bricking over the door, I sketched. A lot. Like while I watched TV with Henry. Who did not approve my drawing of his feet. For the record.
Then the dog woke up, and made me walk him. Jerk.
(This was before he had to be Coned. He's much better now, thanks for asking! He has no more need for a cone, and it looks like we've avoided the need for surgery. His vet declared him the healthiest fourteen-year-old dog she'd ever seen. AT LEAST fourteen, we reminded her. He could be much older. He could be the Methusaleh of dogs.)
I also sketched Izzy. She still hasn't forgiven me. It's actually a flattering portrait.
(Charlie sleeps a lot.)
Then I was all, what do I draw now? And my living room was like HELLOOOOO. So okay.
At the end of last week I went on an audition. Of all things. I thought I was a writer who never had to put on pants? Except to walk the dog? And even then a longish coat will suffice? And now I'm being called on to put on mascara and emote in front of a camera*? (*Magic soul-catching box.) Next week I'm going on another audition. One that is totally unrelated to the first one. I apologize for being so cryptic but this is all very puzzling to me. I hope to tell you all about the goings-on when the results are in. And I'm on BROADWAY!
(p.s. not Broadway.)

Ok, now you're just messin' with us, pretending to be all anxious and stuff, when in fact you have the world by the tail. Is there anything you *can't* do?? Sheesh. Your drawrings (I can't help but say it that way) are amazing, especially the last two. I wish I had that gift. Thanks for sharing yours.
Hey. Emily Dickinson rarely left the house, and look at her!
I'm waiting for the sketch of the bricked-over door. All great artists have a "brick" period.
Love the new sketches! Esp. of Izzy.
Good luck...er...I mean, "Break a leg" at your next audition...whatever it may be for. Hmm...hmm...hmm...
I'll just patiently wait...
Oh my God, you're going on Survivor, aren't you? No? The Amazing Race? Hell's Kitchen? America's Next Top Model? Don't tell me. I'll figure it out.
(Seriously, you with the art. I love everything you've shown us. It makes me happy for reasons I don't even understand. That's what art does, maybe? I don't know. I can't even draw stick people.)
OK look, You'r ticking me off with all this talent. You can write and draw. Not fair. . . I can't do either. And now you're going to be a movie star. Just quit it or I'm going to roll up in a ball and sit in a corner mumbling to myself.
You nailed Izzy's eyes. Mine are all bloodshot and watery. 8-(
Hi kooky: Like
Alice : Like, Like, Like!
All of these sketches are sale-able. Do it.
Alice, is that bird on your living room wall a kookaburra? And I love that your bookshelves are colour-coded. I can now say 'there is another!' when I'm attacked about mine :-)
Damn. Please tell me you didn't draw all of those in one sitting. That's alot of drawing. I feel lazy.
MP: Oh, no! These were all done over a week. And that only because I was barely moving off the couch.
I love these drawings!! My daughter has recently revealed an ability to draw too. Although mostly she draws angry birds and sharks for some reason. I think we watched one too many Jaws movies during shark week. But she's getting really good. Personally I can't draw at all even if my life depended on it. Trace. That's about all I can do lol. So hats off to you!! A writer and an artist and...broadway?! Can't wait until you can reveal in your posts what that is about and what's in store for you!
Your feet drawing reminds me of Ramona Quimby, in the book Ramona and Her Father (I think) where her Dad is attending art school and draws their feet. Awesome.
Wow, your living room looks so inviting and serene. Maybe I could just buy a really really big print of it and paste it over my own, hmm...then I wouldn't actually have to clean up the mess! Love your blog!
Your drawings are great! I especially like the one of Charlie. Reminds me of my pup. And good luck with your auditions! I can hear the drumroll, so we're all waiting for the payoff ;)
Your sketches are just beautiful, Alice: I love seeing them. I wish you would illustrate some children's literature, so that I could see them in print. (I read a lot of picture books).
Tell me it's a one woman show.
I could sit and listen to you for a very long time.
And I know that sounds dorky, so what: I am dorky.
These sketches are good! Maybe you should be drawing a lot more? Have you ever tried another medium, like using acrylic perhaps?
