Invitation to the most important discussion about parenting in the history of ever

Are you going to BlogHer this year? Because I'm participating in an event sponsored by BillMyParents, and you should come.

Here's the deal: My esteemed colleague Eden Kennedy and I are, as you know, parenting experts. On Friday, August 5th, at 11:45 am, we'll be hosting a lunch/discussion (I call it a "lunchscussion") with Liz Gumbinner and Kristen Chase, of Cool Mom Picks fame, who apparently know something about kids as well? We're not really clear on their qualifications. We suspect their children are made-up. Anyway, the topic of our discussion will be "Parenting in the Digital Age." We'll be asking them all about whether or not you should tell your children that the Internet exists, and/or when you let your child have one of those "cellular phones" everyone keeps talking about. And then we will determine whether or not their answers are correct, or insane. Things could get rowdy. Liz is fairly diplomatic, but you never know about Kristen. She's scrappy.

In order to join us, go here for more information on how to RSVP. Space is limited, so hurry. HURRY!

I will also be at the BillMyParents expo booth (booth #227) for a couple of hours on Friday, whittling and talking to myself, so be sure to stop by and say hello. Or just throw things at me. (Please don't throw things at me.)  (I'm not sure what my time slot will be, but as soon as I know, my friends, you will know as well.) Eden, Liz, and Kristen will also be there during the conference, and if you visit you can enter for a chance to win a trip to SxSW in 2012.

Full disclosure: I am being compensated (with money!) by BillMyParents for my involvement in this event. The BillMyParents MasterCard is a card you can give your teenager(s), which you can track and control right from your smart phone.

I will not attend the luncheon because I think someone with children would benefit more from it than I. But I will stop and and say Hello at some point. Maybe I'll even come up with something better to say than "I like your blog"! I'll start practicing now.

I think that people with children may or may not benefit from it, Cindy. Don't be so sure. Because while I do think that Alice and Eden really have children, I am not quite sure if they actually have any advice-giving qualifications.

Just read the Amazon reviews of their book if you don't believe me.

Can I throw my children at you?

Kidding. Totally kidding. That's just the "it'sFriday and I'm at my witts end with these crazy kids" in me talking. I love my children. And you. And I do not throw. Throwing is not nice.

On the other happy hand, I'm quite excited you'll be at BlogHer. Now you'll finally get to meet me! =)

Well , before I decide to stop by and say hello, you have to tell me if you ever get tired of " I LOVE YOU ALICE BRADLEY!"

My decision depends on your answer.

Alice,

I actually signed up for this and got in (yay). Then this morning (brain PLUS sleep = better) realized it totally conflicts with the one iron-clad thing on my schedule - the special needs community birds of a feather lunch and breakout mini-conference (boo).

Damn!!!! But I will see you around the conference for sure.

Not like I'll be stalking you or anything.

(and congrats on the getting paid thing.)

I wish I was going to BlogHer for this alone!

Aside, BillMyParents may want to rethink their naming...I'm having a nightmare that involves my 5 yo son and unlimited downloads of Angry Birds.

So sorry to know that not only am I going to miss BlogHer but your whittling as well.

Since I am a procrastinator, I have not even looked at the potential blogher schedule and figured out where I should be at what times. This is good, (or could possibly be considered bad, if you don't want to meet me), because now I can have an important event on my schedule on Friday. If your time slot on Friday is late enough, I may already be tipsy, which will make it much more entertaining for everyone involved.

Just kidding. Sort of.

Have fun! I won't be anywhere near there to attend, but I hope it's a blast for you!

And just fyi: the link for mom-101 is pointing at the wrong webpage, it needs a dash! :)

Any discussion on that whole 'cellular phones are a dangerous, unstudied technology that could possibly lead to brain tumors in your kids' 40's' or?

I have paid attention to, thank you for sharing!
