« Hi. | Main | Ho paura del ragno. »

We're back!

Actually we came back last week, but I spent my first few days at home catching up on recent events and I was too busy weeping and breaking things to write much. Wow! Stuff sure happened! Over in Italy, we had only the murkiest of ideas of what was going on. We were all, “Hurricane, you say? Well, that’s nothing new. Evacuations? What a headache! Pass the prosciutto!” We were so ignorant. So ignorant, and so drunk.

In light of everything, it seems wrong to blather on about our lovely trip traipsing through the Italian countryside; but then, you didn’t come here to watch me rend my garments. Thus, I'll be writing more in the next few days. When I've sobered up. If I sober up.

Yay! You're back! I'm looking forward to your trip recap.

Welcome Back! Sounds like you had a lot of FUN! I always find the first week home from vacations to be very depressing because it is such a let down....good luck!

Cool - you are back. Can't wait to hear about the trip.

I completely understand the weirdo feelings you are encountering right now. I was out of the country in 1993 when there was massive flooding here in the midwest. Coming back home from the airport was surreal because it looked like a war zone. AND I had JUST been in a 3rd world country for the prior 6 weeks. Eek.

Yup. Me too.

We were in Spain for 9/11. Flew back to NYC on 9/17 and gaped in horror as the cab rounded the BQE facing a blackened, smoky, glowing-from-below hole in the skyline.

On a lighter note: Hooray! You're back! Had your fill of lovely cheese and wine? Can't wait to hear all about it. It will surely beat the devastating newscasts and depressingly futile commentary.

Yay for being back! Oh, and don't even try. These are not the days in this land to sober up.

For sure- keep drinking and start writing. We need something else to think about. Like how heavenly your vacation was, maybe??

You're such a tease! You're back, but not really posting. What gives? I've taken in my sister who evacuated from New Orleans, become obsessed with Katrina coverage, and now a non-post? I need relief! (Oh no. Am I complaining? Someone slap me.) Seriously, share the funny. We missed you, and if you won't sign with me, at least entertain me. These days, not much does.

Um... actually, I did come here to watch you rend your garments.

I want my money back.

i was thinking, as i wandered over, that you MUST be back by now or you'd have decided to move to italy forever and live in a shed with no blog. which would have made me mad, by the way.

We missed you. Tell us all about the stinky cheese and the lovely wine.

Oh Alice, what the world needs now (more than ever) are some good traipsing tales. Please regale us, preferrably before you even sober up!

when you choose to post or what you choose to post will not make anyone think you are less sensitive...

but i for one - (among many obviously) are glad you are back - safe...

Oh god, please don't sober up. Please! Things are ugly here in sobriety.

C'mon Alice, your stories are a tonic to those of us suffering from CNNdigestion. Give us the good, the happy the drunk, make us laugh, damnit!
September 12, 2005 | Unregistered CommenterLala
Yes, please, what we all need now is a little diversion. You are HEARTILY welcomed home.

So glad you're back, precisely because I need to hear about someone traipsing through the Italian countryside :)

Alice,Remember when your son went away and you thought that you might ingest him upom his return? That's how I feel about you. Minus any sexual connotation...sorry, I know that last part probably disappoints you.

Gee whiz, hope this is right.....Dia il benvenuto a indietro, non può attendere per sentire i particolari.

Oh please, blather away! There are already more than enough people telling us important things in earnest voices. I'll start: Where did you have the single best cup of cappucino/expresso/latte of the trip?
September 13, 2005 | Unregistered Commenterudge
Yes! Welcome home.

Is Henry bilingual now?

Belatedly, Welcome Back! I was checking in to the blog all the time, and then I figured that you were going to be gone for, like, forever, so I stopped checking, and now there are TWO posts! Hooray! I'm waiting to hear all about your trip so that I can get all depressedly nostalgic about my year in Italy and wonder what the fuck I'm doing in Jersey and why I haven't left yet!!
